Chambre noire, laboratory of the soul

Chambre Noire transcends the mere urban chronicle to become a metaphor for a quest for meaning in a darkened world. This new triptych, continuing the philosophical lineage of The Port Trilogy, brings together three distinct photographic panels: NYC Blues (New York, 2005), Asia, Mon Amour (Seoul, 2024), and CDMX... al latido (Mexico, 2025).

United by a cinematic black-and-white aesthetic, where darkness is treated not as an absence but as a necessary laboratory in which the light of meaning is revealed, Chambre Noire operates on a fundamental double metaphor. It refers first to the analog technique: the physical space where the latent image awaits its development to exist. But above all, it designates the state of the contemporary world and human consciousness: a space of darkness, uncertainty, and silence in which the individual must learn to see differently to reveal their own images.

In this global Chambre Noire, the aim is not to artificially illuminate the darkness, but to discern within it the fragile glimmers that give existence its value. Black and white is no longer a stylistic choice, but the indispensable tool for this revelation: it strips reality of its colourful distractions to focus the gaze on the essential, transforming each photograph into a visual meditation on resilience and lucidity.
